The Haven Gateway Partnership is delighted to be sponsoring the
Felixstowe Regatta for a second year, and I look forward to dryer
but equally competitive racing this year.
The Partnership continues to actively promote the Haven
Gateway (North Essex and South Suffolk) sub-region to Government and regional
agencies and businesses alike. The public/private sector Partnership
has a key role in co-ordinating the sub-region’s housing growth (an
additional 50,000 new homes by 2021) and economic growth where we
strongly recognise the key assets of the sub-region – the ports and
logistics, tourism (including food and drink), emerging creative
industries, ICT clustering, finance, construction and of course,
marine leisure.
The Haven Gateway is the UK’s
second largest area for yachting, with more than 10,000 berths or
moorings in some of the
UK’s finest sailing waters.
Over 1800 people are employed in marine leisure across the
sub-region contributing over £85 million to the sub-region’s
economy.
As well as a number of growing marinas, top class sailing and yacht
clubs, we are home to boat builders such as Oyster Marine, Spirit
Yachts and Fairline as well as brokers, marine engineering firms,
chandlers and some of the finest hotels and catering establishments.
The Haven Gateway offers an environment of the highest quality and
whilst the sub-region continues to be one of the fastest growing in
the UK it offers
quality of place that is second to none – much of it relating
to our existing coastline, estuaries and rivers.
The Partnership has been extremely successful in its key priorities
– securing consents for the expansion of both Felixstowe and Harwich
ports, delivering new and affordable housing and attracting funding
for essential infrastructure for the area.
This includes an additional up to £120m for the A12 and £87m
for the A14, increasing capacity for the Felixstowe to Nuneaton
railway,£18m of Growth Point Funding for local projects, over £20
million of congestion busting for Ipswich town centre and a new
junction for the A12 at Cuckoo Farm, Colchester.
We continue to see many new developments progress such as Ipswich
Waterfront including Dance East, Snape Maltings and FirstSite,
SnOasis, the Felixstowe South reconfiguration and investment in
HE/FE institutions at the new University Campus Suffolk in Ipswich,
University
of Essex, Colchester
Institute, West Suffolk
College and Suffolk New
College.
We will continue to support the balancing of the needs of the key
commercial ports with the needs of our increasing number of leisure
users and believe we are genuinely delivering smarter solutions to
sustainable growth.
