The Regatta shall provide racing for 12 Metre
Class boats, IRC TCC boats, boats that have a Local PY based
Handicap, Half-Tonners with an IRC TCC, as well as 'Sportsboats'
(i.e. Hunter 707, Cork 1720, Melges 24, J80's etc) with an IRC TCC.
IRC boats shall be split into classes depending on entries. The
anticipated class splits can be seen in the Regatta Sailing
Instructions.
The Organising Authority may offer individual class racing if
entries warrant.
Classes may be using the event as their
respective Area Championships or as qualifying races for other
series.
A crews briefing shall be given
at 1830 on Friday 23rd May.

1 Rules and the RYA Racing Charter
1.1 The regatta shall be governed by the rules as defined
currently in ---
a) The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2005-2008
b) Current ISAF Offshore Special Regulations (OSR)
Category 5 Monohull
c) The current IRC Rules parts 1,2 and 3
d) One Design Class Association Rules that may apply.
e) The Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions.
f) National authority prescriptions shall apply.
g) Team racing rules shall not apply to the Regatta Team
Challenge.
h) The objectives, principles and practices of the RYA
Racing Charter.
i) In the event of a conflict, the Sailing
Instructions shall prevail.
2 Advertising
Advertising shall be restricted to Category C.
3 Eligibility and Entry
3.1 The regatta is open to any mono hull boat that meets the
requirements of section 1, plus the
following;
a) Has a functional engine and adequate fuel.
b) Carries a functional marine VHF radio transceiver capable
operating Ch's 16, Ch 71 (Harwich VTS), Ch72 (Regatta
Communications).
c) Boats racing in IRC Classes shall have a current IRC TCC.
Any boats that do not comply fully with the requirements may apply
to the Organising Authority for written dispensation.
d) Local Handicap Class - Has a local (PY based) handicap issued
by the Race Committee for sole
use during this event.
e) Sportsboat Class. Boats shall have a current IRC TCC. A
minimum LOA of 6 metres and a SSSN of 8 or above (or any other
stability standard equivalent).
Any boats that do not comply fully with the requirements may apply
to the Organising Authority for
written dispensation.
f) Half-Tonners shall sail with IRC Class 3. They shall have
a current IRC TCC.
g) 12 Metre Class. The Organising Authority recognises that this
class may not have IRC TTCs and
due to design constraints this class shall require dispensation
regarding the above requirements. ( See 3.2)
The Organising Authority may waive certain safety eligibility
requirements where a boat's design
prohibits their complete application provided:
a) The Organising Authority is notified in writing of any
shortcomings by the close of entries.
b) The boat and crew complies with all specific conditions of
entry laid down by the Organising
Authority.
This does not alter the Organising Authorities rights under RRS
76.1 (Exclusion of Boats or
Competitors).
3.2 The entry form is at the back of the Handbook; it may also be
found in the Sail East Handbook
and on this website.
3.3 The race pack shall be sent to those competitors whose entry
form and payment have been
received by Friday 9th May 08.
3.4 Late entrants must collect their race packs from the
Race Office, Suffolk Yacht Harbour.
4. Fees
4.1 Entry fee £60 if entered by Friday 2nd May 2008.
4.2 Entries received after 2nd May but before 9th May shall pay
an additional fee of £15 (i.e. a total fee of £75).
4.3 Entries received after 9th May shall pay an additional
fee of £30 (i.e. a total fee of £90).
4.4 Late entries may be received at the discretion of the
Organizing Committee and subject to an additional entry fee as set
out in 4.3.
4.5 Any refund of entry fees shall be at the discretion of
the Regatta Organising Committee.
5. Qualifying Series and Overall
Series
5.1 Haven Series IRC entrants are eligible for the Landamore
Trophy and prizes
5.2 IRC entered boats shall be eligible for SailEAST
season's points and prizes for the SailEAST races.
5.3 Half -Tonner Series: (races 1 to 4) to comply with the Half-
Tonner Class Europe definitions and conditions.
5.4 'Sportsboats' Series. (Races 1 to 4)
5.5 Local Handicap (PY) Series. (Races 1 to 4)
5.6 12 Metre Series. (Races 1 to 4)
5.7 The Regatta Team Challenge: (Races 1 to 4).For boats with an
IRC TCC. Open to three-boat teams from recognized clubs and
Associations.
Entry forms can be obtained from this website or: - Felixstowe
Regatta, c/o Walton & Frinton Yacht Club, Mill Lane, Walton on the
Naze, CO14 8PF, or the Race Office.
6. Measurements (and Rating)
6.1 For 'Sportsboats' and IRC classes, the rating in force for any
race of the Regatta shall be that valid seven days before the event
starts.
6.2 For the Local Handicap class the rating in force for any race
of the Regatta shall be declared by the Race Committee by 19:00 on
Friday 23rd May.
Other than
a) In exceptional circumstances (at the discretion of the Race
Committee).
b) For boats being rated for the first time.
6.3 Rating Protests
6.3.1 A boat may protest another boat alleging that her
rating is incorrect or that she does not comply with her class rules
only if they are in the same race.
6.3.2 Unless the protest committee decides otherwise, no
penalty shall apply to any race completed before the protest form is
lodged. This changes rule 60.1 (a).
6.3.3 Corrections - notwithstanding 6.3, the Race Committee
has discretionary powers to correct errors in ratings.
7 Sailing
Instructions
The Sailing Instructions are provided within the
Felixstowe Regatta handbook. They are available from the Regatta
website.
8 Race Area
Dovercourt Bay.
See Race Area chartlet. The Race Committee may
extend this area for the
12 Meter Class.
9. Scoring
9.1 RRS App; A, Low Points System for a Series. A9 does not apply.
See Sailing Instructions 19.
9.2 Discards. Overall Regatta - Four races completed three to
count. Three or less completed, all shall count. (Except in the
Regatta Team Challenge where no discard shall be allowed). Ties
shall be broken in accordance with RRS A7 and A8.
10 Haul-Out restrictions
Boats shall not be hauled out during the Regatta except with and
according to the terms of prior written permission of the Race
Committee.
11 Diving Equipment and Plastic Pools
Underwater breathing apparatus and plastics pools or their
equivalent shall not be used around keel boats between the
preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the Regatta.
12 Trophies and Prizes
Trophies and prizes shall be awarded each day after racing, for
various races and classes.
Trophies and prizes shall be awarded on Sunday for the Sail EAST
Series, Haven (IRC) Series,
13 Disclaimer of Liability
Competitors participate in the Regatta entirely at their
own risk. See RRS rule 4, Decision to Race. The Organizing Authority
shall not accept any liability for material damage or personnel
injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during,
or after the Regatta.
14 Insurance
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party
liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2,000,000, or
equivalent thereof in any other currency.

yachts 'ITALIA' and 'CRUSADER'.
3.b The IRC TCC Handicap Race is open to any
IRC TCC mono hull boat that is entered in the Felixstowe Regatta
2008.
3.c 12 Meter Class. The Organising Authority
recognises that this class may, due to design constraints, require
dispensation regarding the above requirements.
3.d None of the above shall compromise the
Organising Authorities rights under RRS 76.1 (Exclusion of Boats or
Competitors).
3.e The entry form is at the back of the
Handbook; it may also be found in the Sail East Handbook and on the
Felixstowe Regatta website.
4. Fees
All boats must be fully paid up entrants to the Felixstowe
Regatta 2008..
5 Sailing Instructions
The Sailing Instructions are provided with
the Regatta Race Pack. They may be found on the Regatta website.
6 Race Area
The Race Committee intend to hold the
races off Felixstowe town, in the area between Landguard and Bawdsey, north of the
Felixstowe Port shipping channel. The Race Committee may change this
for whatever reason.
7 Scoring
7.1 12 Meter Class Challenge. RRS App; A, Low
Points System. Both races to count.
7.2 IRC TCC Handicap Race. RRS App; A, Low
points System.
7.3 Race ties will be broken using A7and A8 as
appropriate.
8 Trophies and Prizes
Trophies and prizes shall be awarded on
Monday afternoon, as soon as possible after racing.
